North Yorkshire Centre for Independent Living is a membership organisation promoting independence for disabled and vulnerable people and helping them to lead fulfilling lives.  We offer membership to charities and organisations (in particular User Led Organisations) to achieve excellence and improve networking and communication.  There are two levels of membership: FULL and ASSOCAITE.
A User Led Organisation with around 75% of staff, Directors and Volunteers who are disabled, vulnerable or carers can join at FULL Level membership.
An Organisation that helps or serves disabled people in some way but not user led can be ASSOCIATE Members.
NYCIL is committed to greater communication and improved delivery of services for disabled and vulnerable people and their carers so that they can get products, services and professionalism they deserve to enable them to live full, independent and fulfilling lives.

  • Access to any NYCIL event or similar events and any updates and developments relating to aims and objectives of NYCIL.
  • Opportunity to participate in local and relevant consultations.
  • Promotion of your organisation through our website and social media.
  • Help and advice on policies and procedures
NYCIL works to support disabled people, vulnerable people and carers by providing information and advice and by delivering services that support independent living.
We aim to help people to have increased confidence, self esteem and motivation; improved mental and physical health; improved social, emotional and economic well being; improved coping strategies; increased independence, inclusion and quality of life and improved life skills and employability.
By becoming a member of NYCIL, organisations can help build the capacity of voluntary sector organisations working on behalf of vulnerable and disabled people and their carers.

Full membership allows organisations to be nominated to NYCILs Board as a Director and to have full voting rights. To join NYCIL as a full member, User Led organisations(ULOs) must be committed to providing the support and help to those they serve and to listen to the needs of their service users, and be able to prove that they do this. They should also have, or be working towards ensuring, that service users are well represented at management committee/board level at around 75%.

Associate members must be supportive of NYCILs aims and objectives and must be committed to provide the suppport and help disabled people and their needs.  They will be entitled to attend and vote at NYCILs Annual General Meeting.
